There is a quote in the Bible that says, “Hope deferred
makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.” (Proverbs
13:14, NIV). There is so much truth in this quote and it always resonates with
us more where we feel we have hoped, prayed, waited, yet nothing seems to be
happening.
My answer? Keep hoping, keep praying and certainly keep
waiting. Why? Because you can't afford to quit now! Here are five key point I would
like you to keep in mind:
- Remind yourself that God is in control. And I don’t just mean mumbling something but actually reminding yourself that God reigns supreme – regardless!
- Take a trip down memory lane and remember all the things God has done. When we are down, we develop what I call ‘spiritual amnesia’ and forget all the blessings from our yesterdays and yesteryears.
- Find just one reason to give thanks. Cast your mind back and celebrate your past/present victories. It could be that you are alive today or you are well enough to read this article. Just thank Him. An attitude of gratitude invokes God to action.
- Uplift yourself by changing the atmosphere of your surroundings. Put on some uplifting music or inspirational teaching in the background. Brighten up your environment with flowers or a lovely scent. Do something to get out of the depressive funk.
- Find someone trustworthy and supportive who you can open up to – someone who can support you during this season of your life.
In closing, remember we all go through such seasons but
the trick is not to remain there. So get back in the race.
